Winter at the über-cozy, über-elegant Inn at Hastings Park is magical, with so much to enjoy right on the property: dining in our delightful INNgloo Wonderland, attending a Supper Club event or one of our other culinary-education experiences, sipping a cocktail while making s’mores around your own private bonfire…
But there’s much to explore in the realm of winter activities beyond—but wonderfully close to—the Inn. In this exciting New Year, which will see Lexington as well as the neighboring communities of Concord, Arlington, and Lincoln celebrating the 250th anniversary of the Battles of Lexington and Concord (which opened the American Revolutionary War), we welcome you to join us for a wintertime escape—and to get out and play!
Here are some ideas for embracing the best of the season here in the Birthplace of American Liberty.
Cross-Country Skiing, Snowshoeing, and Winter Hiking
You’ve got multiple excuses to strap on a pair of cross-country skis or snowshoes—or maybe some hiking crampons—while relishing our Relais & Châteaux hospitality here at the Inn.
Through mid-March, our guest services team can set you up with great cross-country skiing or snowshoeing over at the Leo J. Martin Ski Track, which boasts the most extensive cross-country-focused snowmaking capabilities in New England and thus primo opportunities to cruise the white stuff regardless of the weather. The professionally 2.5-km/1.5-mi circuit comes lit at night for after-hours outings, too.
Another fine nearby spot for working up a sweat is Arlington’s Great Meadows, a 183-acre open space owned by the Town of Arlington but actually situated within the Town of Lexington. Fantastic trails weave through the timbered uplands that encircle the broad hummocky, marshy flat at the heart of the Great Meadows, a swath of precious natural habitat and beauty within shouting distance of your Inn guestroom or suite.
Ice Skating at the Boston Common Frog Pond
Another guest experience available to you here at the Inn is an excursion to the beloved outdoor ice rink at the Boston Common Frog Pond. Whether you’re staying with us on a family getaway, a romantic couples retreat, or as a solo traveler, it’s hard to resist the appeal of a good old-fashioned outdoor skating rink, and the iconic Boston Common is a pretty darn special place to have one.
Historical Touring
The ability to delve deep into Lexington’s fascinating history—not least its role in the American Revolution—is a year-round deal, and taking advantage this winter, as we lead up to the major Lex250 celebrations and Patriot’s Day in April, makes a perfect itinerary. From the Lexington Battle Green and Munroe Tavern to Concord’s Old North Bridge, the momentous sites of Minute Man National Historical Park are at your fingertips as a guest here at the Inn at Hastings Park.
We offer a Footsteps of the Revolution Historical Tour of Lexington & Concord as part of our guest experiences, and, meanwhile, don’t forget to explore all of the special themed events we’ve got planned for this anniversary year…
